War Games: it’s time!

Two teams. Two rings. One giant cage. If the WWE is looking to spice up their PPV buys and their ratings, then it’s time to bring back one of WCW’s most successful matches: War Games. But there should be some tweaks to it….The origional War Games that Dusty Rhodes created in 1987 for the NWA promotion had 2 rings, with an all-encompassing cage around them (but not around the ringside area. 2 teams of four members (sometimes five) would compete- one member of each team would start in the ring and after 5 minutes, another participant from one of the teams (decided by coin toss) would enter. Every 2 minutes after, another wrestler from alternating teams would enter. After all wrestlers were in, everyone would fight until one wrestler submitted, surrendered, or was knocked out (no pin falls, no DQs).

To stay with the “PG” image of WWE (a rant for another time), this is how I would tweak it:

1st, the cage would be much taller than the NWA/WCW one- it would prevent people being dropped on their heads. There has to be room for wrestlers to perform their moves and finishers (can you imagine The Undertaker trying to give someone ‘The Last Ride’ in the old War Games cage!?) Next, the cage would go around the ringside area, similar to “Hell In A Cell”. I would keep it as a 2-team, 4-per-team match but once all the participants were in, I would add pinfalls but take out the “surrender” option (still no DQs). And the perfect place to have this match? Survivor Series. I don’t know if I would have a pure Raw vs. Smackdown War Games as the 1st one; some possible matchups that I think could work:

-DX (HHH and Shawn Michaels), John Cena, and Kofi Kingston vs. Legacy (Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Ted DiBiase) and Jack Swagger

-C.M. Punk, Big Show, Chris Jericho, and Dolph Ziggler vs. Batista, Mark Henry, MVP, and Christian

“Regal’s Court” (William Regal, Vladmir Koslov, Ezekiel Jackson, and Zack Ryder) vs. “The Peeps” (Christian, John Morrison, Zack Ryder, and Yoshi Tatsu)

War Games is calling you, WWE. Let them into the fold!
