Raw 4/12/10

Notable Happenings – Stuff that happened on the show that you may need to know for a later day.

  • Guest Host David Hasselhoff set the World Title match for Extreme Rules as Jack Swagger vs. Randy Orton, since Orton had defeated Swagger the past two weeks.
  • Eve defeated Maryse to become the Divas champion
  • Carlito began complaining about the guest hosts being out for themselves and not caring about the wrestlers.
  • Bret Hart has to declare ShowMiz as the greatest tag team ever, next week

Rest of the show.

  • Divas Championship match:  Eve def. Maryse by pinfall. After being named the #1 contender after winning last week, Eve got her title shot this week.  Maryse, laughing at Eve after she missed a Moonsault from the top rope, as her DVD blocked.  Eve is able to roll-up Maryse and get the pinfall, becoming the new Divas champion.
  • Miz def. David Hart Smith by pinfall. ShowMiz was in the ring talking about how they were the greatest tag team of all time.  Bret Hart interrupts them, saying he knows of a few ones that were greater.  The Hart Dynasty comes out, and a match is made:  if Smith wins, then Hart Dynasty gets a title shot; if Miz wins, then Bret has to declare ShowMiz the greatest tag team ever.  The action goes back and forth for a bit.  Smith puts Miz in the Sharpshooter, Big Show gets onto the apron, and Smith releases the hold to go up to Big Show.  The distraction and a punch from the Big Show to Smith’s back allows the Miz to hit the Skull-crushing Finale and get the pin.
  • Evan Bourne def. Carlito by pinfall. Good match.  After hip-tossing Bourne into the corner, Carlito sets him up on the top turnbuckle.  Carlito goes for the Backstabber, but Bourned holds on.  Bourne then hits his Shooting Star Press and gets the pinfall.
  • John Cena def. David Otunga by submission. Of course Cena controlled all of this match.   Cena begs Batista, who came out with Otunga, to come into the ring.  Cena figures then that he has put Otunga through enough, and makes him tap out to the STF.  Cena again tries to get Batista into the ring, but Batista refuses to.
  • Kofi Kington def. Sheamus by DQ. It was a pretty good match, showcasing each person’s strengths:  Kofi’s speed and Sheamus’ power.  After Kofi ducks under Sheamus’ pump kick, Kofi hits him with Trouble In Paradise.  Sheamus grabs the bottom rope right before the 3 count.  Sheamus rolls to the outside, and hits Kofi with a monitor, bringing the DQ.  After the match, Sheamus continues to beat up Kofi, running him into a ring post a few times.
  • Baywatch Triple Threat Tag match: Bella Twins def. Gail Kim/Kelly Kelly & Rosa Mendez/Jillian Hall. Created by the Hoff, all the Divas were wearing the Baywatch bathing suits.  After pulling the old switch-a-roo, one of the Bellas pinned Rosa.  Santino, who was serving as ref, “swallows” his whistle after a scuffle with Jillian.  In comes Hornswoggle, who hits Santino with the Tadpole Splash, causing Santino to cough up the whistle.
  • Orton def. Batista by DQ. Overall, a fine match.  Decent length, both wrestlers controlling parts of it.  The match ended when Jack Swagger ran in, and hit Orton with a Gut-wrench Powerbomb.  Cena then runs in, and puts a still fallen Batista into the STF.  It takes several refs to get Cena off of Batista.

Closing Thoughts.

  • I like Bret Hart having a storyline going on with the Hart Dynasty.
  • I like Kofi Kingston more when he’s being serious, and pissed off, rather than fun loving.
  • Is it just me, or has MVP been missing from Raw since Wrestlemania.  Same with Mark Henry.
  • I hope Carlito complaining about the guest hosts will actually lead to something, but I’m not holding my breath.
  • I do not like that the Cena/Batista match at Extreme Rules is going to be a “Last Man Standing” match.  To me, these matches never hold my interest, and always seem to have an anti-climatic ending.  Personally, I would have gone with a “Falls Count Anywhere” match.
  • Having Randy Orton face Jack Swagger doesn’t make much sense to me.  Sure, Orton has been on face push lately, but it’s a Smackdown title.  I have a feeling that Teddy Long is going to change this match on Smackdown.  Well, I hope so at least.
