Kaitlyn Wins And We’re Going Into Round 4 – NXT 11/30/10

So Kaitlyn won. Was she the best? Probably not. Does she have the potential to be good? Absolutely. As I’ve stated recently, she has gotten better in the ring. She’s kind of funny, so promos shouldn’t be too difficult for her in the future. It may just take time, which was the problem with the whole Diva Search Contest. But Layla and Eve managed to pull it together fairly quickly, so there’s hope for her. Plus, she technically has a guaranteed title shot too, so that doesn’t hurt.

As for the rest of the show…

The Bellas & AJ def. Alicia Fox, Maxine & Aksana

In a fairly good match featuring mostly Nikki Bella & AJ who butted heads early on when AJ tagged herself in and was later left looking for a partner to tag when Nikki dropped back. The end result was from a second proactive tag from AJ who caught Maxine off-guard while dealing with Nikki and hit a flying crossbody from the top rope for the pinfall. Afterward AJ planted one on Primo and then became embarrassed.

Kaitlyn def. Naomi

It was a rather long match for the finish given, though Kaitlyn showed she can hold her own in a lengthy match if she has to. The match ended in a small package pinfall.

There was promo time for each Rookie to talk about their Pros and their opponents throughout the night and each eliminated Rookie (even Jamie!) got to say who they thought would win. Nothing much more to say here because if you’ve heard them once then there was nothing new here.

Season 4?!?

That’s right NXT returns next week with a whole new batch of male Rookies. Sticking with the 6 competitors format, here are your Pro/Rookie pairings and my thoughts.

Ted DiBiase w/Maryse – Brodus Clay – Maybe it’s because he said he’d suplex you six ways from Sunday or that he was referred to as the “Mastadon of Mayhem”, I like his odds. With DiBiase as his Pro I’d like to see Ted constantly spending money to improve Brodus’ image because he’s kind of a beast.

Chris Masters – Byron Saxton – Former ECW broadcaster Byron Saxton’s a wrestler? Who knew? While his holier than thou attitude is appealing, I find myself more interested in whether or not Masters can reinvigorate his own career here. Rhodes and Goldust found much needed career boosts as Pros on NXT but they are also the sons of The American Dream, which doesn’t hurt.  Masters lacks that sort of legacy.

Alberto Del Rio – Conor O’Brian – O’Brian’s pretty intense (not Vance Archer intense, but who is?) and seems like a very straightforward fighter. With Del Rio as his Pro, he might be the leader of the pack in Ws this season. I see myself misspelling his name regularly, though. Only one ‘N’, Conor?  Really?

Daniel Bryan – Derrick Bateman – This one could be interesting in an unexpected way. Their introduction video felt really odd to me. Check it out for yourself. Personally, I can’t take Bateman seriously. He looks too much like Andy Samberg.

Dolph Ziggler w/Vickie Guerrero – Jacob Novak – This team has the best momentum going into season 4. Vickie’s Rookie won season 3, Ziggler made the only live introduction and Novak looks like a mini-Ziggler.

R-Truth – Johnny Curtis – R-Truth is back in the Pro seat again but this time with someone who looks to be able to hold their own in the ring. Curtis has the personality Michael McGuillicutty should have had in season 2. I like his chances.
