Brodus Clay is eliminated making Johnny Curtis NXT Season 4 Winner!

And to that I say–

Johnny Curtis was the only Rookie this season I couldn’t have cared less about. Even Jacob Novak, who’s pretty unlikable, had some appeal to winning this season. Sure Curtis has a solid in-ring presence but so did Kaval and we see how that worked out. Besides, there’s a long list of current superstars who give us great matches that I would prefer to see over Curtis. His Pro, R-Truth, for one but now they’ll be moving forward with their tag team angle from here until the inevitable conclusion I mentioned last week.

So this segment is completely negative it was nice to see the eliminated Rookies return and actually have a match. Usually they’re just sitting ringside and getting interviewed. Aside from the winner this season has been full of great decisions.

Season 5 seems to still be a go but the Rookies have not been named. Rumor is that it’ll be 2nd generation superstars and their fathers. If so they’re probably trying to gather another team (as I’ve only counted 5 possible pairings so far) and get Carlos Colon, Sr. under contract. I wouldn’t mind seeing a tag team NXT, a second chance NXT or combination of the two for the next season.

Smackdown

The World Heavyweight Champion Edge had a contract signing with his Wrestlemania opponent Alberto Del Rio but before that he came out to the ring to gloat about his victories over Dolph Ziggler & Vickie Guerrero the past 2 weeks. The Chosen One Drew McIntyre was still upset with The Rated R Superstar (for what I assume is the fact that Kelly Kelly likes Edge despite it being his fault she was fired but still can’t stand to be around Drew even though he’s always been there for her or something like that) and attacked him in the ring. General Manager Theodore Long decided to make the match official and if McIntyre wasn’t game for a fair fight, he too would be fired. McIntyre accepted.

Later that night Edge & Del Rio met in the ring for their contract signing. Everything was going fine but once the signatures were on paper all control was gone. Edge had control at the start but Ricardo Rodriguez got involved allowing Del Rio to lock in his Cross Armbreaker. Del Rio kept the submission hold on with no reprisal insight for Edge. But Edge has friends (Canadian friends!) who also have issues with his Wrestlemania opponent as Christian returned off injury to break up the hold. Del Rio fled to the back as the former 7 time tag champs stood together to close the show.

  • Cody Rhodes challenged Rey Mysterio to a match at Wrestlemania promising to remove Rey’s mask again, this time on the “grandest stage of them all.”
  • The Undertaker return to Smackdown to talk about his Wrestlemania opponent Triple H.  He put him over as the King of Kings but said his streak will not be ended by him. Typical Taker!
  • Rosa Mendes reunited with her former mentor Beth Phoenix in a losing effort to Lay-Cool.
  • No real reason to report that last part except that I really like Rosa Mendes.
  • Corre came down during Big Show’s match to offer some help by giving his opponent Kane a steel chair.
  • Kane used said chair to get DQ’d, then attacked The Corre when Justin Gabriel bumped into him during their post-match attack.
  • Kane’s so krazy!
  • Michael Cole came out with his trainer Jack Swagger to announce that he’ll announce his Wrestlemania match’s special guest referee next week on RAW.
  • Swagger quickly defeated JTG afterward.
