Kaitlyn Wins And We’re Going Into Round 4 – NXT 11/30/10

So Kaitlyn won. Was she the best? Probably not. Does she have the potential to be good? Absolutely. As I’ve stated recently, she has gotten better in the ring. She’s kind of funny, so promos shouldn’t be too difficult for her in the future. It may just take time, which was the problem with the whole Diva Search Contest. But Layla and Eve managed to pull it together fairly quickly, so there’s hope for her. Plus, she technically has a guaranteed title shot too, so that doesn’t hurt.

As for the rest of the show…

Road To The Final 3 – NXT 11/9/10 & 11/16/10

The first challenge this week was an Arm Wrestling Challenge.

Round 1: Aksana def. AJ & Kaitlyn def. Naomi

Round 2: Kaitlyn def. Aksana

I’m not at all surprised with Kaitlyn winning this one. If Jamie was still in maybe it would have been a more balanced competition.

AJ def. Nikki Bella

Nikki controlled most of the match but when the Bellas attempted the “switcheroo”, Primo came to his Rookies rescue. AJ pulled out the win with a pinfall rollup.

The next challenge of the night was the WWE High School Yearbook Challenge. AJ picked up another win after a competitive tie-breaking scuffle with Kaitlyn to answer the final Superstar John Morrison.

Naomi def. Aksana

The match was created during the opening when Naomi called Aksana out on her gold diggin’ ways. Aksana came out alone but before the match started her Pro Goldust came out…and stood in Naomi’s corner. Aksana fought hard but ultimately Naomi pulled out the win.

The night started off with the first challenge, Know Your Pro Challenge. Most of the teams did well except Goldust/Aksana but it was Primo/AJ that came out victorious with a clean sweep.

Naomi def. Kaitlyn

In a surprisingly good match by Kaitlyn, Naomi pulled out another in-ring victory after Vickie Guerrero berated Kaitlyn causing her to lose focus.

AJ def. Aksana

Before the match Aksana apologized to Goldust asking him to be in her corner. Goldust reluctantly agreed but after walking out with her he stopped short and watched up on the stage with the rest of the Pros. Aksana fought valiantly despite being left to fend for herself for the second straight week by her Pro/husband Goldust. AJ picks up another victory.

Diss The Diva 2?

In what I think was the 2nd Diss The Diva Challenge (though they may have filled time with a 3rd once) Naomi proved that she’s still the best on the mic but that’s not really saying much. AJ tried something new that came off a little flat, Kaitlyn was funny but didn’t make much sense (as usual) and Aksana loves WWE and USA.

At the end of the night Aksana was the 3rd Rookie to be eliminated. She fainted. Then got up said her goodbyes (and vows to return) and left. But Goldust had a final surprise for his wife. Divorce papers. So maybe she won’t be back after all.

AJ- Still playing the nerd gimmick well and dominating in the ring. I’m a little concerned about her angle with Primo. It seemed he was starting a ladies man gimmick at the beginning of the season but this will be the 3rd NXT romance this season. Wait, Maxine hooked up with Hornswoggle, it’s the 4th!

Naomi- Clearly the most athletic and can string together an adequate promo but I’m not as sold on her as I was earlier in the season. Should still make the final 2.

Kaitlyn- definitely deserves the Slammy for Most Improved because she could string together a match to save her life at the beginning of the season. Now at least there’s a comfortable flow to her matches.

Aksana- Kinda saw her elimination coming when Goldust returned the Million Dollar Belt and his and Ted DiBiase’s fued ended abruptly on the Old School RAW. With the divorce papers being served to close out the show she’s either going to be released or return managing a debuting wrestling/new husband.

Trick Or Treat & Golden Matrimony – NXT 10/26/10 & 11/2/10

Due to the aforementioned computer problems Masked Marvel spoke of two weeks ago (thanks for covering for me) I’m combining the past 2 weeks of NXT. Hopefully I’ll be back on a normal schedule soon as the season is supposedly coming to an end in 4 weeks.  Read more of this post

Sounds Of A Knockout Engagement – NXT 10/12/10

This week on NXT the Rookies test their theme music knowledge, go for a knockout punch and only lucky rookie finds a golden solution to her problems.

Name That Tune Challenge

Two rounds of WWE theme music including themes of Dusty Rhodes, DX, Orton, Cena, Trish Stratus, Legion of Doom, Edge, Santino, Melina, Vince McMahon and Zack Ryder…you know it.

AJ cleaned house answering all but 2 faster than the other Rookies. Naomi got Santino correct and no one could figure out the iconic Legion of Doom theme.

Address The Universe

To kill some time Striker gave each Rookie 1 minute to talk about anything they so chose:

  • Naomi called out Michael Cole for his negative attitude.
  • AJ gave a personal ad to all the single gamers out there.
  • Kaitlyn gave Vickie Guerrero a tube of Bengay as a gift.
  • Aksana told how much she loves America and thanked Christopher Columbus for discovering it. Striker corrected her.
  • Maxine talked about disrespect. Specifically Hornswoggle disrespecting her and Kaitlyn disrespecting Vickie & Dolph’s relationship.

Power of the Punch Challenge

Just like in season 2 the punching machine was wheeled out again. Before the Challenge Vickie confronted her Rookie Kaitlyn and decided to let bygones be bygones as long as she stayed away from Dolph Ziggler. That seems civil but I’ve been watching Smackdown and that’s not going to happen. As for the challenge itself:

  • Naomi hit around 811 the first time but had to try again because she used 2 hands. She hit just over 800 the 2nd time. Oh yeah, she won.
  • AJ hit in the mid-300’s. Michael Cole was excited that he hits harder than a 100 lb. girl.
  • Kaitlyn used the Bengay previously mentioned to “numb the pain” but she whiffed completely. She was a little embarrassed.
  • Aksana and Maxine did well but without any attention grabbing antics like the others. All business.

Goldust proposes to Aksana

Throughout the night Aksana was worried about the news of being deported in 3 weeks. Goldust did his best to console her before her match to no avail. To end the night he brought up the idea of marriage. Then got on one knee and popped the question. Aksana said yes and it seems a wedding is in the future of NXT.

Lacking The Keyes To Success – NXT 10/5/10

This week we get the first  elimination of NXT season 3 on the first online only episode of NXT. I’ll cut to the chase, Jamie Keyes was eliminated and it was kinda sad because where as the men cut a promo as the exit she just said he goodbye and tried not to cry. Which means there will be at least 3 more possibly depressing episodes.

This weeks challenges were:

Bull Riding Challenge

After a tandem Bella Twin demo each rookie held on to try and win a chance at immunity. Well Kaitlyn, Naomi, AJ and Jamie did as they were the only ones with points so far. Aksana made the surprise win with 17 seconds blowing the rest out of the water but everyone showed a little personality as they prepared.

The Talent Show Challenge

  • Aksana did push-ups with her legs over her shoulders which was really impressive.
  • Naomi performed a rap which was pretty good. Look out R-Truth.
  • AJ performed some gymnastics to show off how flexible she was. She is very flexible.
  • Jamie showed off her talent of seduction; demonstrating on Matt Striker. Striker likes.
  • Kaitlyn showed her artistic side with a portrait of her Pro Vickie Guerrero saying “Excuse me!” with stink lines and all.
  • Maxine took her time to apologize to Hornswoggle and offer him her pie. She’s the one who wound up eating it though.

The winner was Kaitlyn which meant there was a tie between her and AJ for immunity. Striker left it up to the audience to decide and Kaitlyn won. This was good as AJ was probably safe anyway and it let Kaitlyn focus on her match with Vickie later.

More Fun Than A Wheelbarrow Full Of Dissin’ Divas – NXT 9/28/10

This week on the greatest train wreck in sports entertainment….

Wheelbarrow Challenge

Each Rookie competed in a wheelbarrow race where they took turns pushing a wheelbarrow around the ring. In said wheelbarrow was Hornswoggle. Key moments: Maxine set the bar early and played the heel role very well especially after Hornswoggle bit her butt, Kaitlyn tried to get in the wheelbarrow with Hornswoggle then won with a time of 12 seconds and AJ looked adorable pushing a wheelbarrow that weighed more than she did knowing she had no chance to win this. Most impressive moment was post-challenge when Hornswoggle lifted Kaitlyn on his shoulder in celebration.

Diss The Diva Challenge

Each Diva was given the mic (and apparently as much time as they wanted which none utilized) to diss their fellow Rookies. I found it slightly ironic that during the Talk The Talk Challenge they regularly went off topic to trash their competition and this week they didn’t want to. AJ ultimately won as she was the best on the mic despite not really dissing anyone.

And that’s it. No matches this week. AJ and Kaitlyn got video interviews this week and Kaitlyn ended the night challenging her Pro Vickie Guerrero to a match next week. Matt Striker was breaking up the cat fight as the show closed. Next week is the first elimination and it seems to be airing before Smackdown on Friday but you can watch it at WWE.com (its new permanant home) live on Tuesday (day the votes are tallied).

Punk Saves Another Lost Soul – NXT 9/21/10

As you recall Michael Cole quit NXT last week to the WWE Universe’s elation. But who would replace him as no one really wants to hear just Josh Matthews for a full hour? The answer is our ‘Straight Edge Savior’ CM Punk. Now I’m not sure if Punk was just that good or whether it was the fact that I was a little drunk when watching this weeks episode but I thoroughly enjoyed NXT this Tuesday.

The night started off with Matt Striker giving the Challenge updates for the Rookies and when he got to Kaitlyn, “Excuse me!” is heard throughout the arena. Vickie Guerrero came to the ring and took credit for Kaitlyn’s Obstacle Course win last week. She then brought out some more Pro help for her Rookie in the Co-Undisputed Diva’s Champions LayCool. LayCool berated each of the not-Kaitlyn Rookies (specifically Jamie) until Kelly Kelly stepped in and challenged LayCool & Kaitlyn to a Six Diva Tag Match against Jamie, her Rookie Naomi and herself (The Bellas weren’t there this week). With the main event set it’s time for some Challenges.

Musical Chairs

According to CM Punk, this is a key training exercise in wrestling school but from the onset you could tell who was going to win as AJ was the only one not wearing heels. AJ took the victory after a controversal finish. Despite having a majority of the seat when the music stopped, Naomi lost having officially sat down second pushing AJ off the chair.

Talk The Talk

Now this is usually the one Challenge I’m perfectly fine with on NXT as it gives you a good sense of improvisational promo skills of the Rookies. Unfortunately, outside of AJ these women barely have 2 years of training between them so guess who wins. AJ picks up her 2nd Challenge victory talking about caffeine Jamie and Naomi were disqualified for going too off topic on the subjects of teeth and toupee respectively. Aksana technically stayed on topic in that she kept saying she didn’t know what a llama was. Maxine said she’d use her foot to squash AJ and Kaitlyn was too busy picturing everyone in their underwear to talk about ignition. After Kaitlyn’s topic Punk mentioned that not wearing pants is how he watches NXT.
